A natural disaster is defined as a hazard which occurs naturally, that is a disaster that is not brought about by acts of human beings. A natural disaster might be caused by earthquakes, flooding, volcanic eruption, landslide, etc. In order to be classified as a disaster it will have profound environmental effect and/or human loss and frequently incurs financial loss.

The idea of innocent people loosing their lives due to natures own imperfections was the initial point to this idea. Everyday people have their lives taking in vein by other human beings around them, it is constantly reported on the news and circulated on the internet and newspapers. We are constantly reminded that we are not perfects, among the human race their are good and bad and that is down to our choices. So i decided to look at a slightly different imperfection – nature. I decided to research the single worst natural disaster for a range of natural disasters. recording the the death toll, date, place and name for each. So here is my base idea for the project.

1. April 26, 1989 – Daulatpur – Salturia Tornado – Bangladesh – 1,300 lives taken

2. May 31, 1970 – Huascaran Avalanche – Peru –  20, 000 lives taken

3. February 3, 1972 – Iran Blizzard – Iran – 4,000 lives taken

4. 1300 – 1720 – Black Death Pandemic – Asia, Africa, Europe –  100,000,000 lives taken

5. November 7, 1970 – Bhola Cyclone -Bangladesh  – 500, 000 lives taken

6. January 23, 1556 – Shaanix Earthquake – Shaanix Province – 830,000 lives taken

7. December 26, 2004 – Indian Ocean Earthquake & Tsunami – 230, 000 lives taken

8. April 10, 1816 – Mt Tambora Volcanic Eruption – Indonesia – 92,000 lives taken

9. December 16, 1920 -kansu Landslide – China – 180,000 lives taken

10. February 7 2009 – The Black Saturday Bush fires / Wild Fires – Australia – 173 lives taken
