My work delves into the perception of the female body within society, discussing the misinterpreted affection the viewer gains from looking at the subject, an attribute that inspires my own practice both visually and mentally. By examining and confronting the changing concepts and understandings of the female body within art, my work pushes the boundaries of taboo subjects, to gain an insight into physical and emotional attributes that we females hold inside. The context of my work incorporates the use of sculpting materials, but not always in the orthodox way, I like to challenge the boundaries of my chosen materials, taking them away from their natural uses, and applying them in unusual circumstances. A true inspiration for my work is Cathy de Monchaux, for her use of feminine and masculine materials, she incorporates them concurrently to create beautiful vaginal depictions that pose questions to the viewer, an aspect I wish to challenge within my own work.
