HYSTERIA
During my BA, my practice delved into the illness formally known as Hysteria and i became fascinated with the interpretation that this historic diagnosis held over the female population. The term Hysteria was believed to explain circumstances of extreme female behaviors, such as; sexual frustration, irritation, madness and any female who had a tendency to cause trouble within society itself. However, in today’s world, the term Hysteria is no longer considered a medical diagnosis, it has been researched further and has been linked to a range of mental illnesses, such as; Bipolar Disorder and Personality Disorder.
