ART ARCHIVE

Throughout my time at University, I have taken my work in a range of different directions, though the use of differing subject matters and contexts alongside a range of different mediums. I have opened my mind to the differing understandings of what art can be, although i still carry my own opinions of what i personally call art. When i look at my work from the past i notice a significant change in the way i approach a subject matter, i used to plan in advance possibilities, knowing exactly what i was going to create as a finished piece. I think this was due to the lack of confidence i had in my ability to grasp a new idea and interpret it for myself. However, within my current work, i have delved headfirst into a taboo subject surround the female vagina – a subject i wouldn’t of thought about discussing.

I feel like i am beginning to trust my own choices and interpretations of subjects and materials that i feel my practice could benefit from. My confidence has also grown in terms of being able to discuss my work and the context it holds behind the imagery – an aspect i struggled with in the past.

So these are the reasons i feel that past works are just as important as current works as they have helped me develop my own artistic personality, ensuring that i continue to question my own work, asking myself how can i make this even better?
